Setting Up Your Terra for the First Time

Setting up your Terra Station for the first time

Open the Terra Box

Your Terra Station and its accessories can be found within the 100% recyclable box. Please be sure to reuse or recycle your Terra box.
Contents:
  1. Terra Station
  2. Female-threaded green magnet (magnetically attached to Terra bottom)
  3. AC to DC power supply
  4. 30 foot (10 meter) power cable
  5. Wall mount for Terra
  6. Ground stake for Terra (stake, extension tube, and male-threaded top)
  7. WiFi antenna (black)
Open up your Terra box, remove the Terra Station and it it to the side. Under the box divider, you will find the remaining items.

Getting Terra Station Ready for Setup

In a comfortable location (such as indoors), unfasten the cable ties for both the Terra power supply and power cable. On the power cable, match the keyed flat piece on the cable to the keyed flat piece on the power supply. Press in until the connection feels snug.

Then, take the cable nut and screw it onto the threads until the cable nut is flush with the end of the threads. You should see no exposed threads when it is fully connected. If you do, check to make sure the flat pieces on the power cable match.

Plug the power supply into an outlet and plug into Terra.

The green light should come on immediately. It may flicker a few times, but eventually fade in and fade out.

Once you have confirmed Terra has power and is waiting for its WiFi setup, you can now move on to the next step.

Connecting the WiFi Antenna

The Terra Station requires a WiFi antenna to be attached. Take the black WiFi antenna (included) and screw the WiFi antenna onto the center gold antenna connector. Make sure that it is snug, but do not over tighten, as it can damage the antenna and Terra.

Your Terra Station has high-quality internal Blu and MOTUS antennas, which can be augmented with optional external antennas available for purchase on our website.    For more information on Terra antennas, you can read this article: Terra Antenna

Download the App

Use your smartphone's camera to scan the large QR code under the top lid of the box. This will link you to both Android and iOS app download links, as well as helpful support articles such as this one.

Setting Up Your Account

You have two choices when setting up your account with Terra.
1.  If you made any order online you can use the email address associated with your online order and finish the setup process.  To check to see if your email address is already associated and awaiting you to finish the setup process, simply go to the login screen and click "forget password".   IMPORTANT: A known issue is that if you try to sign up with your existing email address, you will get an error message.  To resolve this issue,  go to the login screen in the app and click "forgot password".   This will put you through a password recovery routine that will fix the problem.  We will be resolving this issue shortly.
2.  Otherwise, you can use a brand new email address.   If you do not have an account, simply sign up using the Register screen.

Preparing for WiFi Setup

Before you setup your Terra Station on WiFi, please make note of your WiFi name and password. You can find this by going to "settings" on your phone, clicking WiFi, and making note of which network has a check box next to it. This is your "SSID" or WiFi network name.

Next, click the blue info icon to the far right, and look for password near the top. Click on the password, and then enter your phone's passcode or use Face ID to reveal your WiFi password. Write these down or memorize these, as you will need this during the setup process. Note that both WiFi network names and passwords are case sensitive.

Setting up Terra WiFi

Click on "Setup your Terra" in the app. Click continue, and select "Terra" from the Devices scan screen. If you see an error regarding Bluetooth, be sure to correct that before continuing by turning on the bluetooth on your phone.

The current Terra app does not support scanning of nearby WiFi networks, so you will need to make sure you put these in manually (this feature will be added soon). In the SSID field, enter your WiFi network name that you wrote down earlier. Next, in the password field, enter your password. and click "Send Credential". You may need to click it twice due to a minor bug to clear the keyboard out of the way.

Terra Setup Confirmation

The app should confirm that Terra Station is setup on your account. If by chance you get an error message such as "Terra belongs to another account" or some other error message, please open up a ticket with the email address you are attempting to use along with the Terra Station serial number.  Your serial number is on the bottom of your device (under the magnet), on the inside of the box on the lower right corner of the top insert, and on the back side (not the bottom) of the box.

Listening to your Terra

After you leave the setup screen, you should see an icon denoting your Terra being added to your account. If it is ghosted out, pull down from the top, as it will refresh the status. You can then click on Terra to listen.  Note while Terra is actually currently identifying birds, the current version of the mobile app is not displaying those IDs.  This is another feature that will be available soon (see Feature Roadmap).
