Setting up your Terra Station for the first time

Open the Terra Box

Your Terra Station and its accessories can be found within the 100% recyclable box. Please be sure to reuse or recycle your Terra box.
Contents:
  1. Terra Station
  2. Female-threaded green magnet (magnetically attached to Terra bottom)
  3. AC to DC power supply
  4. 30 foot (10 meter) power cable
  5. Wall mount for Terra
  6. Ground stake for Terra (stake, extension tube, and male-threaded top)
  7. WiFi antenna (black)
Open up your Terra box, remove the Terra Station and it it to the side. Under the box divider, you will find the remaining items.

Getting Terra Station Ready for Setup

It's important to setup your Terra indoors, close to your wifi router and phone.  If you place it outside during setup, you may have issues with bluetooth connectivity.  Unfasten the cable ties for both the Terra power supply and power cable. On the power cable, match the keyed flat piece on the cable to the keyed flat piece on the power supply. Press in until the connection feels snug.

Then, take the cable nut and screw it onto the threads until the cable nut is flush with the end of the threads. You should see no exposed threads when it is fully connected. If you do, check to make sure the flat pieces on the power cable match.

Plug the power supply into an outlet and plug into Terra.

The green light should come on immediately. It may flicker a few times, but eventually fade in and fade out.

Once you have confirmed Terra has power and is waiting for its WiFi setup, you can now move on to the next step.  The green light should be pulsing on and off continuously.

Connecting the WiFi Antenna

The Terra Station requires a WiFi antenna to be attached. Take the black WiFi antenna (included) and screw the WiFi antenna onto the center gold antenna connector. Make sure that it is snug, but do not over tighten, as it can damage the antenna and Terra.

Your Terra Station has high-quality internal Blu and MOTUS antennas, which can be augmented with optional external antennas available for purchase on our website.    For more information on Terra antennas, you can read this article: Terra Antenna

Download the App

Use your smartphone's camera to scan the large QR code under the top lid of the box. This will link you to both Android and iOS app download links.
You can also just go to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search "Terra Listens", which should show the app.

Setting Up Your Account

You need to login into your account in the app.  You may have created an account with a name and password when you ordered your Terra (the login online is the same).  Or, you may not have ordered online, in which case you'll need to create a name and password.
If you have a name/password already, you may be asked to sign in when you start the app.  If you don't remember your password, just use the "Forgot Password" option, and a link will be sent to your email to reset it.
If you don't have a name/password yet, just click on the "Register" option at the top and then put in your info.  You can also create an account online at www.terralistens.com/register
Note that you use this info to sign into the app, and you can also use it to sign in on the web at www.terralistens.com/login where you can also listen to your Terra.

You'll Need Your Wifi Network and Password

Before you setup your Terra Station on WiFi, please make note of your WiFi name and password. You can find this by going to "settings" on your phone, clicking WiFi, and making note of which network has a check box next to it. This is your "SSID" or WiFi network name.

Next, click the blue info icon to the far right, and look for password near the top. Click on the password, and then enter your phone's passcode or use Face ID to reveal your WiFi password. Write these down or memorize these, as you will need this during the setup process. Note that both WiFi network names and passwords are case sensitive.

Also note that cut and paste doesn't always work with passwords, so you may want to enter your password manually instead of cutting and pasting it.

Connect to Your Terra

Click on "Setup your Terra" in the app. You'll continue through some instruction screens until you get to the Bluetooth scanning screen which will find your new Terra.  Give it at least 30 seconds to scan - you should see your device show up as something like "Terra1254".  Click that, and then continue.  If you get a connection error, be sure that the permissions are on for the Terra Listens App (see this article). If you scan for more than a minute with no luck, try exiting the setup and try again.  Be sure that your phone is very close to the device.

Connect Terra to your Wifi

The page after you connect to your Terra will scan for available wifi networks.  Again, give it at least 30 seconds to scan, but if it's more than a minute, try restarting the setup.  You should now see a list of wifi networks - choose your network, and enter your network password.  Note that the password must be EXACT, or the connection will fail.  You can click the "eye" icon on the right of the password entry area to see the password and double check it.

Click continue, and your device should connect to the internet.

Name Your Terra

Next you'll come to a page that lets you name your Terra and other options - you can also skip this if you want to use the default name.

Terra Setup Confirmation

The app should confirm that Terra Station is setup on your account. If you see an error just continue, and you should go back to the home screen (Live Listen).  You should now see an area at the top called "My Terra" and your Terra should show up underneath it.

Troubleshooting

If you have any trouble with setup, please let us know!  We can often help solve a problem, and we have additional resources on our end for troubleshooting.  We check out tickets daily M-F during business hours, and we'll endeavor to get back to you and help the best we can.  Our email is support@terra.zohodesk.com - this is the absolute best way to reach us - using other emails etc may not be seen as quickly.

Listening to your Terra

After you leave the setup screen, you should see an icon denoting your Terra being added to your account. If it is ghosted out, pull down from the top, as it will refresh the status. You can then click on Terra to listen.  Terra identifies bird 24/7, whether you listen or not.  Enjoy!
