Where are some good places to put my Terra?

One of the fun things about Terra is that where you put Terra is up for experimentation! Terra ships with a powerful WiFi signal and antenna, allowing you to put Terra nearly anywhere in a typical sized yard, including adjacent wooded areas! Each location will have unique advantages and perhaps some disadvantages. While everyone's location comes with unique circumstances, here are some ideas.

Next to Bird Feeders

This is a sure fire way to get some activity and also listen to what is at your bird feeder. You will be able to listen to vocalizations, as well as wings flapping as they fly to and from the feeder, helping you build your yard list. It is recommended not to place Terra directly under feeders, as those hungry birds can be messy! This way, you can keep your Terra as clean as possible.

Habitat Near Feeders

While feeding, birds tend to move back and forth between feeders and the safety of a great hiding spot. This is another great place to put Terra while they hang out in your yard. These habitats include bushes, shrubs, trees, and brush piles. You can even make your own habitats to give your visitors plenty of places to safely hide.

Water Features

A bird bath, pond or other water feature is a perfect place to listen to birds. The sound of water can also add an additional level of relaxation to the sound of your Terra. Water features also will attract other types of birds, so this could be a great way to introduce more variety of species in your yard.

Above Your Home or Near the Roofline

You can also place Terra high above. This can remove some ground related noises and give you a higher perspective of what is nearby in your yard. And as a plus, it will also increase the built-in radio receiver's range. Placing a Terra near the roof line or on an old TV antenna mast can also bring Terra up near the canopy of surrounding habitat and trees. Be careful though when placing Terra up high and be sure to seek a professional's help if it is needed.

In a Greenbelt or Nearby Forest

For those lucky to have nearby forested areas, Terra's strong WiFi signal makes it possible to place Terra into a nearby greenbelt. The forest floor can also cut out some urban noise in the process.

What to Avoid

While sometimes situations are unavoidable, it is also good to keep Terra away from the following for an ideal listening experience. It will not impact bird identification, however:
  1. Pool pumps and other pool equipment
  2. Air conditioner units
  3. Fans
  4. Roadways and driveways
  5. Play areas
  6. Walkways
